About InKnotts Wine

Our Story: A Journey Into Eastern Europe’s Most Remarkable Wines

InKnotts Wine began with a personal journey that opened the door to one of Europe’s most exciting and underappreciated wine regions. When my Moldovan wife first took me to visit her homeland, I discovered a country with a winemaking heritage stretching back thousands of years — a place where wine is not simply produced, but woven into daily life, culture, and national identity.

Moldova, nestled between Romania and Ukraine, is one of the world’s oldest wine‑producing regions. From family‑run vineyards to internationally recognised estates, the country’s deep connection to wine is unmistakable. During my early visits, I was captivated by the diversity of native grape varieties such as Fetească Neagră, Rară Neagră, and Fetească Albă, alongside classic international grapes that thrive in Moldova’s fertile chernozem “black earth” soils and warm continental climate.

These natural advantages — combined with long ripening seasons and generations of craftsmanship — produce wines with exceptional balance, depth, and character. Yet despite their quality, Moldovan wines remain relatively undiscovered in the UK.

From Moldova to the Wider Region

What began as a fascination with Moldovan wine soon expanded into a broader appreciation for the wines of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Regions such as Romania, Georgia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Greece, Slovenia, and North Macedonia share a similar story: ancient winemaking traditions, distinctive native grapes, and remarkable value — yet limited visibility in the UK market.

This realisation shaped the mission of InKnotts Wine: to champion the very best wines from Eastern Europe and the Balkans, and to make them accessible to wine lovers across the UK.

Our Approach: Direct Relationships, Authentic Wines

As an independent UK wine merchant, we work directly with respected wineries across Moldova, Romania, Georgia, and the wider region. These close relationships allow us to source wines that truly reflect local terroir, heritage, and craftsmanship — including limited‑production bottles rarely found elsewhere in the UK.

Our curated collection includes:

  • bold, structured reds
  • elegant aromatic whites
  • refreshing rosés
  • traditional‑method sparkling wines
  • unique native‑grape expressions
  • small‑batch and boutique releases

Each bottle is selected with care, representing the diversity and identity of Eastern Europe’s wine culture.

Sharing the Stories Behind the Wines

Wine is more than a product — it is a story, a place, and a connection. Through tastings, events, and educational content, we aim to introduce customers to the people, grapes, and traditions behind every bottle. Whether you’re exploring Saperavi from Georgia, Kadarka from Hungary, Xinomavro from Greece, or Fetească Neagră from Romania, our goal is to make discovery both enjoyable and accessible.
